January 2025 - Pokemon Rush!
Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise, EVER. As such, I think a lot of us have played and enjoyed Pokemon, whether it's the Gameboy, DS, Gamecube, Wii or Switch. It's very likely you're played, or experienced Pokemon in some way. Because of this, I bestow upon you, the Pokemon adventure special!
We start our journey in an unusual location, the National Park from HG/SS! Not where most trainers begin their journey, but it's free and you can catch pokemon to keep! I'm sure some trainer got their start here!... Mainly us.
The location is beautiful. That is the word that describes this park! With tall grass, lovely music that you can manually set, a day/night selector, rain, GB mode, and you can just about see Ecruteak city through the trees and over the hills! There is even a Ho-oh atop bell tower!
This is where things fall apart a little. The next couple of maps were quite low effort and for some reason had a tendency to have models with no collission and are meant to be looked at in only one direction. If you walk to the other side, you can see through the model. Not everyone is a 3D Moldeller or developer, so I'm going to skip over talking about faces on models. It's jarring and kind of annoying at times. It also makes taking nice photos VERY hard.
We visited Sootopolis and Slateport, Sootopolis had a few buildings you can go inside, though they lacked ceilings and collission, so you can walk out of bounds very easily. The Poke mart uses a different shop as the creator states they "Could not find a Poke mart model", so these seem to be model rips from the games, this would explain why you can only see models from certain directions.
Slateport had none of that, no interiors, no background, nothing other than a model of the city. This is my personal favourite pokemon location, so it saddens me that this is what we have available on VR.
There was a light at the end of the tunnel though, a beautiful reimagining of Treasure Town, a location from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. This had the town itself, the guild, the sharpeedo cliff, a mini dungeon/cave and the beautiful beach with krappy bubbles blowing in the wind!
There isn't much to do here, it's a hangout world with mirrors and props from the game. But it's actually fan-made and not a model rip, it has heart and soul, it's just pleasent! We spent some time here hanging out before my VR died. However, before it did, I took some cute snaps!
